General
Turn on this ruby red mixer and your first thought will be “there's no place like my home studio”. Behringer's UFX1604 will get you noticed because of its sleek red design as well as for its superior sound, thanks to high-quality mic preamps, British EQ and multi-effects. The UFX1604 has some impressive features for its price class, and its sure to provide the functionality, ease of use and performance that you're looking for in the studio and on stage.
One of the most exciting features of the UFX1604 its recording functionality. It allows you to easily record to your PC or Mac via FireWire, or to record directly to a USB stick. The first is of course ideal for studio situations, and thanks to the included Tracktion 4 software, you can get mixing and editing right away. In such studio situations, the UFX1604 can also work as a remote control centre for computer-based DAW systems. For other situations where your computer might not be handy, you can make use of the USB recording option. If you're in a live situation and you want to save the session for later, all you have to do is plug your USB stick into the port on the comprehensive rear panel and sit back while your session is recorded. The USB option allows for recording up to 16 tracks simultaneously.
Microphone Preamps
Of course, you'll want excellent sound for those recordings, and Behringer's definitely got you covered on that front. Another great feature of this mixer is the XENYX microphone preamps. These preamps are often compared to boutique mics thanks to their excellent quality, and are particularly convenient thanks to their phantom power switches. This means you can use your high-grade condenser microphones for mixes with superb quality.
British EQ and other features
All mono channels also feature British 3-band EQ with semi-parametric mid control, so you can boost or decrease your frequency by up to 15 dB. This type of EQ circuit brings that high-quality warmth and depth of the rock music a-la-British Invasion to your sound. You'll also find that channels one and two are equipped with a line/Hi-Z switch, so you can connect your electric or semi-acoustic guitar and/or bass without an external DI, saving space in your set-up and cutting out the middle man, so to speak.
Finally, you can enjoy working on your mix with the two high-powered effects engines on board. Make use of 16 different presets, all of which can be edited, and which include phaser, delay, flanger, chorus, reverb, multi-effects and a tap function.
All in all, this is an attractive, multi-functional, versatile mixer with a great sound. The only thing we didn't really mention was the equally attractive price tag.
