That unmistakable classic Strat sound and body shape but with a unique, modern twist and a fixed, hard-tail bridge: the Squier Contemporary Stratocaster Special HT. Three slanted Squier SQR Alnico single-coils come mounted, but the mid-pickup has been shifted down and nestled up next to the bridge pickup, building a thick, humbucker style foundation sound when they're placed in series in position 1. Flip the selector switch into position 3, and the middle and neck pickups are placed in parallel, then shift up to position 4 and unleash all three pickups at once.
The Contemporary Stratocaster Special HT with Fixed Bridge
Since this is the HT edition, it comes mounted with a fixed hard-tail bridge with six adjustable block saddles and a string-through-body construction which not only contributes stable tuning but excellent resonance. The roasted maple neck has a beautifully aged look while lifting the stability even further and has been finished with the tight and comfortable feel of a C-profile; a coat of smooth satin-gloss lacquer; and a slightly-flatter 12" fretboard radius and 22 jumbo frets for eased grip. In terms of aesthetics, the Contemporary Strat brings it hard with a black pickguard and matching black headstock.

Ik heb deze, de hardtail dus, maar ook die met tremolo. Gekocht bij Bax, keurig snel bezorgd.
De 'recessed heel' & neckplate is zeer welkom om goed bij de hoogste frets te komen, bij soleren erg fijn.
De gewaagde pick-up configuratie is voor een Strat echt iets aparts, vooral stand 1 van de 5-stands-schakelaar waarbij de naast elkaar geplaatste middle & bridge pickups als humbucker worden geschakeld is goed gevonden.
Naast de andere standen waaronder een parallel geschakelde stand van 2 single coils maakt dit de gitaar zeer veelzijdig en bruikbaar.
Alleen als je puur een metal-sound zoekt is het wellicht niet bruut genoeg en kun je waarschijnlijk beter een gitaar met full-size humbuckers pakken, maar verder is dit concept zeker de moeite waard.
Er is wel wat klankverschil tussen de hardtail en tremolo-versie, de laatste lijkt wat warmer en voller te klinken versterkt, maar ook een kwestie van smaak misschien.
Kwa electronica was er een probleempje af fabriek gek genoeg, maar dat is door Bax goed opgelost. Niets dan hulde over de service.
Geweldig dat Fender met deze Squiers zo'n kwaliteitsproduct op de markt brengt, een klassieker maar uitgevoerd met goede bruikbare en vernieuwende aanpassingen.
