Musicians know what they want to hear over their own monitor, but it can be hard for a sound engineer to meet the demands of all artists simultaneously. Allen & Heath have the solution to this issue. The ME-1 can be directly integrated in an iLive, GLD or Aviom A-net system, but is also compatible with other protocols (like Dante, EtherSound or MADI), thanks to the ME-U hub. It can easily be incorporated into your digital audio distribution network, so that every musician can enjoy their own monitor mix.

Technical details of the ME-1 Personal Monitor

The ME-1 is a practical and compact module, that can operate up to 40 audio sources with 16 buttons. Cat5 cables transfer the digital audio signals, and these are connected via Ethercon. Subsequently, each musician is able to create their own monitor mix by setting the volume and balance of their incoming signal. It's also possible to create subgroups of certain sources, so that you don't have to correct the values of each individual singer, for instance. Instead, you can just set the parameters of the entire subgroup. If you connect the ME-1 to the monitor output of a GLD AR2412 rack unit, the names of each input are automatically copied. This will save you a lot of typing, and simplify the recall of specific sound sources.

Construction and details of the ME-1

The ME-1 has a practical, compact size. It can easily be mounted on top of a microphone stand thanks to a built-in 3/8-inch thread, or fastened to the side of a stand. A headphone hook is present for your monitoring headphones or in-ears. Furthermore, various presets can be recalled, edited and saved - even on USB sticks! This way, a musician isn't bound to one specific ME-1. If various units are located throughout a venue, you can use any of them, making them ideal for fixed configurations. The clear OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) gives you a clear view of parameters, even in the dark, but it's not uncomfortably bright.
