Master clocks play an important part in a studio, as they're responsible for synchronising the AD/DA conversion of all equipment. If they don't, you may experience jitter - a deviation in your signal due to inaccurate timing. To prevent this from happening, Tascam has developed the CG-1000, a precise master clock generator with an OCXO (oven-controlled crystal oscillator) on board, that does everything in its power to prevent jitter in your studio.
Tascam CG-1000: Excellent Timing
Oscillators are generally sensitive to temperature changes, which is why Tascam has chosen to use a temperature-controlled oscillator for the CG-1000. As a result, the master clock generator has an impressive frequency accuracy of 0.01 ppm (parts per million). The CG-1000 is equipped with no fewer than 12 Word Clock outputs, the last two of which are capable of transmitting a separate frequency. It also features a 10MHz output. To clock your S/PDIF and AES/EBU signals, both protocols are represented with a separate output.
A Clear Overview
The front of the Tascam master clock generator is equipped with a well-organised status display. The CG-1000 is capable of calibrating itself, and has a USB port that allows you to record an error log. A unique feature is the analyser, which enables you to measure the input signal and to adjust the master clock accordingly. Up to four of your favourite settings can be saved as presets.
