Since smaller home-studio setups don't necessarily need a hefty mixer taking up the whole desk, an ultra-compact and straightforward mixer/interface like the ART USBMix Mini can be a life-saver. Fitted with nothing more than the essential inputs, this mixer isn't just simple, but space-saving and affordable. It's also USB-powered, so doesn't need an external power supply; boasts adjustable impedance so it can be optimally tuned for the connected audio source; and is able to feed a condenser microphone with +48V phantom power.

The control panel has been fitted with a flexible combo jack and XLR input, so can take both balanced and unbalanced audio signals, whether you're plugging in a microphone or an instrument, while a built-in clip-limiter complete with green and red LED indicators helps to manage the input level. A pair of balanced TRS jack outputs are provided for hooking up studio monitors, so this little mixer can even function as a fully-fledged audio interface, and as well as recording in, audio can be played back from the connected computer via USB over channel 2 or 3. For silent monitoring, a TRS jack headphone output has also been fitted and furnished with an independent volume control.
