General

The Squier Contemporary edition of the Jaguar has that same, singular yet traditional body shape but has definitely been built to sway a little to one side of the norm. This model comes finished with a rare and powerful SQR Atomic Humbucker combo supported by coil-tap and series/parallel sliding switches for an immense tonal range, while the solid base is provided by a more classic Tune-O-Matic bridge with Stop-Tail.

The Contemporary Jaguar HH ST

Since this is definitely still a Jaguar, it still has that snug and comfy feel of a shorter 24 inch scale length while the neck has been shaped using roasted maple, which not only looks great but ensures excellent stability and the satin-gloss finish has a gliding, butter-smooth feel. The fretboard has been given a modern 12 inch radius for eased grip; the heel has been thoughtfully rounded off for comfortable access to each of the twenty-two jumbo frets; and to finish, the Squier Contemporary Jaguar comes coated in a lush paint-job that's fully set-off by the black pickguard, matching black headstock, and chrome-plated hardware.

Squier Limited Edition Contemporary Jaguar HH ST Lake Placid Blue IL Electric Guitar

Squier Limited Edition Contemporary Jaguar HH ST Lake Placid Blue IL Electric Guitar

Goofy Axe

This Squier is well made. Just as good as the Fender Player series (at twice the price). But it's an odd ball design.

My first impression of this Jaguar was that it felt weird and awkward with its disproportionate (big headstock, short fat neck, and big heavy body).
It has the bulk of an oversized Tele and the curves of a comfy Strat.

I was tempted to return it immediately for refund or exchange, but decided to give it a few days to bed in.

Headstock looks posh. Nut cut well. Tuners functional, but prefer Fender locking staggered tuners and no string tree. Roasted maple neck feels like a Fender Player. Neck profile is chunky and not ideal for players with smaller hands or shorter fingers. Chocolate coloured laurel fretboard looks cheap and streaky like pau ferro, but can be dyed to ebony with Liberon spirit wood dye. Metallic lake placid blue body is brighter (and less attractive) than Fender website mid blue colour indicates. Metallic fleck finish is well done, but looks a tad 70s glam rock, could repaint it black to match the headstock. Bridge pickup produces some very usable Tele-like tones in humbucker and split coil. Neck pickup is muddy and less useful, could replace it with a humbucker-sized P90 to brighten it up.

In conclusion, the Jaguar doesn't offer anything that a Tele or Strat can't do, and is needlessly radical. Leo Fender lost the plot or ran out of ideas. They are supposed to be easier to play seated, but I don't get it.
