General
There are now so many electronic drum kits on the market that it is sometimes hard to tell the differences and what is actually 'good'. Yamaha is one of the best-known manufacturers of electronic drum kits. When you get a Yamaha kit you know you have quality. This DTX6K-X electronic drum kit is a very suitable drum kit for beginners, but also advanced drummers will be pleasantly surprised with the quality and possibilities this kit offers. Be sure to watch the added videos as well to get a good idea of this drum kit.
Yamaha DTX6K-X electronic drum kit
As you can see from the picture, this drum kit consists of three toms, a snare drum, a bass drum, a hihat, crash and ride cymbal. The KP65 kick pad is an old friend - this drum pad has proven itself for many years now. The pedal in the picture is for illustration purposes and is not included. The kickpad is compatible with any bass drum pedal, so you can also use a double pedal. The three TP70 drum pads are made of rubber and give an excellent playing feel. The XP80 snare drum is a so-called triple-zone pad. That means that there are three triggers built in, which means you can also get three different sounds from the snare. For example, a rimshot, a rimclick and a normal snare sound. The 10-inch crash pad is a dual-zone pad and thus has two triggers. The same pad is used for the hihat. The crash also has a 'choke function'. That means you can mute the cymbal with your hand shortly after striking it. The ride cymbal has a 13-inch diameter and features three triggers (triple-zone). So you can clearly hear the difference between rim, blade and cup, but very special is that this cymbal pad also recognises exactly where on the cymbal you hit. So that's a feature that exists alongside the triple-zone. You will hear that the cymbal does not sound exactly the same in any spot when you play a jazz-ride pattern, for example - just like with a 'real' acoustic cymbal! This, of course, increases the playing pleasure considerably. All parts are mounted to the included DTX6K rack. This rack folds up compactly, it stands on four legs and is therefore very stable.
Yamaha DTX PRO drum module
The heart of any electronic drum kit is, of course, the module. The DTX PRO module of this set offers you very extensive possibilities. First of all, there are of course the more than 400 samples, kits and presets that Yamaha has put in it. These are of unprecedented quality. Some of the best acoustic drum kits were sampled in famous studios in Europe and you can definitely hear that. Not only the drum kits were recorded - the room itself was also recorded. That may sound a bit crazy, but every room has a unique sound. With a fancy word, we call it 'ambience'. There is an Ambience button on the module that allows you to adjust the sound of the room very easily. Be sure to try it out! Next to the Ambience knob is also a Compressor and an Effect knob. You can use various effects per channel and you have the possibility to compose your own sets. To do so, you can load your own samples with a USB stick, or you can put together a kit with the sounds Yamaha has already loaded. Of course, you can connect the module to the computer via USB. Audio or MIDI recording is possible and if you don't have any DAW software yet, you can of course use the supplied download code for Cubase! Incidentally, you can also record in the module itself and you can easily connect the module to a smart device for even more possibilities. Connecting to an amplifier is of course also possible and a headphone output has not been forgotten either.
