General
These days, many people produce their own music, but not everyone likes working with a computer, a DAW and a large collection of plugins. Plenty of producers still prefer an all-in-one solution, and with great products like the Korg Pa4X 61 arranger workstation, who could blame them? Modern workstations resemble the models from the 1990s, but are really computers shaped like keyboards. The Pa4X 61, for instance, offers not just a large 7” colour display, but USB/MicroSD compatibility and a huge amount of sound memory as well. Korg’s Pa4X series definitely measures up to modern standards, but still boasts the same practical, hands-on control as the models of old.
Characteristics of the Korg Pa4X 61
For starters, this arranger workstation offers ten times as many sounds as previous models, and if that’s not enough for you, there’s 400 MB of memory available for your own user samples. In short, the Pa4X 61’s sounds definitely live up to the high standards set by Korg in the past. Additionally, you get a diverse collection of styles, complete with variations and several fills. Have you spotted a nice arrangement in a MIDI file by a famous artist? Korg is able to analyse the MIDI file, and to turn it into a style for you. There are even special sound engines for guitars and drawbar organs. They sound amazing, and the sliders on the left side of the control panel allow you to adjust the registers of the organs.
Additional Features
It’s impossible to list all of the Korg Pa4X’s many features in a single paragraph, but we would like to point out a few highlights. MP3 and MIDI files can be easily played back. It’s even possible to play back two files simultaneously, in which case a crossfader determines the balance between the two. In addition to a collection of great sounds and the option to import your own samples - which basically makes this a timeless instrument - you get a number of fantastic effects. Renowned names like TC-Helicon and Waves should tell you all you need to know. Accompany your own singing, for instance, while the Pa4X creates a nice vocal harmony and enhances your intonation. In the meantime, allow Waves to take charge of mastering - it’ll add a professional touch to your performance.
