General
Roland's D-05 Linear Synthesizer is a remake of the renowned D-50 that first appeared in 1987. Thanks to its revolutionary sounds, it was embraced by music producers which is why it can be heard on countless albums and in lots of films from the late Eighties onwards. With its recognisable mix of sampled attacks and synthesized waveforms, it was used in lots of different music genres. Now, 30 years after its release, it's back in the form of the D-50 Linear Synthesizer from Roland's popular Boutique series.
D-05: legend in a box
While the Roland D-05 has a different appearance to the D-50, it does everything that the legendary original could do, and more! The user interface is very similar and the new model even has the famous joystick that allows you to adjust parameters in real time. All of the original parameters are present and correct and Roland has even added a few new ones for good measure. If you have presets from the original D-50 stored away somewhere, these are compatible with the D-05. You still have built-in effects including chorus, reverb and EQ and let's not forget about the step sequencer and arpeggiator that can help you whip up a memorable melody is no time.
MIDI
The D-05 has a built-in speaker that enables you to hear whatever you're playing on a connected MIDI keyboard (not included). Thanks to its MIDI connectors, the D-05 is compatible with a whole range of external MIDI-enabled equipment. The housing is robust and has a metal front panel which means you can safely take this synth on the road with you too. If you're looking for a modern synth with classic sounds, the Roland D-05 Linear Synthesizer certainly fits the bill.
