There used to be musical labs, which consisted of walls of buttons and patch cables, offering countless possibilities, but not easy for every musician to understand, and definitely not portable. The Minimoog changed all that, and even had an impact on how modern-day synths would function. The Moog Minimoog Model D remake analogue synthesizer is accessible to everyone who wants to own a piece of music history without spending their entire savings. Apart from a couple small details, this is pretty much an exact replica of the original model with the same oscillators, the same filter, and the same look.

Features of the Moog Minimoog Model D

At its core, the Minimoog Model D is a monophonic synthesizers with three oscillators (VCO), a noise oscillator, an oscillator mixer and a filter. It also offers two envelopes (loudness and filter) and oscillator 3 also functions as an LFO. The filter is a 24dB low-pass, and it's what can really make the Minimoog go wild. It has a warm sound, and when the resonance is turned up all the way, it creates the effect of an extra oscillator. The Model D also has portamento for oscillators as well as countless sounds thanks to the wide variety of waveforms. The unique thing about this structure is that only requires a few parameters to generate sounds essential to making music, which is what makes this device so accessible.

What's new in the remake?

In the new Model D, the LFO and filter contour can be used as modulation sources, which opens up all kinds of possibilities to make new sounds. The keys are Fatar TP-9 velocity-sensitive with aftertouch. Using CV, you can operate other devices and CV outputs for pitch, aftertouch, velocity and gate are available for tweaking. Most importantly, it's equipped with MIDI IN, OUT and THRU. The other connectors have been improved to ensure the Model D is reliable enough to take with you on the road.
