The SP-404A Linear Wave by Roland is what you get when you cross the SP-404SX with the AIRA TR-8. This compact sequencer and sampler comes complete with 100 Loopmasters samples. Use this portable sampler anywhere you want thanks to the built-in microphone and the fact it can be powered on six AA batteries. What's more, the RCA input and output and MIDI input make it possible to use it together with the TR-8. The possibilities are endless!

SP-404A: Plug N Play

At first, all the buttons and controls on the SP-404A might be a little overwhelming, but it won't be long before you get the hang of using this plug-n-play device. At the top, there are four rotary knobs - the first is the master volume control and he other three are for adjusting cutoff, resonance and drive. Underneath, there is an LED display that shows the BPM and a number that corresponds to the selected effect. There are various basic effects surrounding this display, and below, there are controls for influencing samples even more. Underneath that, there are twelve sample pads for triggering a total of 120 effects and samples (12 samples or patterns x 10 banks on an SD card).

J’avais longtemps hésité, mais je ne regrette en rien cet achat ! Puissant et compact, permet de créer des grooves rapidement ! Perso je l’utilise dans un set up Dj pour le sample.

Nadat de prijs gezakt was eindelijk eentje in huis gehaald. Op youtube al gezien dat er lui zijn die hele songs drummen op een SP404-A. Zelf focus ik me ook niet op drum patterns. Daarvoor zou ik eerder achter de PC kruipen. Mijn recs bestaan dus hooguit op langere tunes of tenzij korte melodietjes of bepaalde bassen op toch wel drum geluid fantastisch is om op te nemen. Er zijn door mij al meerdere sdhx kaartjes gevuld met opname's op deze sampler. Qua TR 08 koop ik liever een effecten module om op de SP aan te sluiten of op andere instrumenten en daarvoor ben ik niet live spelend genoeg voor en om de TR 08 in huis te halen heb ik de boot gemist. Deze sampler is toch wel 'de bomb' achteraf als aankoop!

Erg leuke sampler. Je moet natuurlijk eerst wennen aan de workflow, maar deze heb je snel onder de knie vanwege het makkelijke design van Roland. Verder zit er alles op en aan qua effecten functies. Perfect voor lo-fi hiphop, maar daarnaast ook erg bruikbaar voor andere genres.

Geweldig ding om mee te samplen, perfect voor lofi hiphop waar het als de holy grail gezien wordt, maar ook zeker te gebruiken voor andere leuke sample based genres. Is even wennen, maar zeer leuk in gebruik.

Ik heb eerst gekeken voor b-stock modellen maar die waren er niet meer. Heb uiteindelijk een nieuwe gekocht, meer als backup voor mijn SX. Maar dit model is hetzelfde, enige verschil is dat je hem kan gebruiken met de aira tr08. Daarnaast voelen de pads erg stijf vergeleken met de SX en er zijn ook geen nieuwe effecten. Blijft een geweldige sampler maar vergeleken met de SX valt deze nogal tegen.

een goede sampler, beter dan goed zelfs. Maar het is letterlijk een SP-404 SX in een ander jasje. en buiten de Loopmasters SD kaart dat er mee komt is er niks van nieuwe of unieke functies die het boven de SX zetten. Ik zou zeggen, kijk eerst eens rond op de tweedhandmarkt voor een SX (b stock modellen gaan van 50 tot 100 euro goedkoper) voordat je overweegt om deze sampler te kopen. Maar anders is er niks mis mee, nog steeds door en door een goede sampler dat zelfs na bijna 10 jaar er fundamenteel gesproken niks aan is verandert maar nog steeds relevant is.

De Roland SP-404A doet precies wat hij moet doen. Samples opnemen en afspelen. Dit via de gebruiksvriendelijke methode van Roland, zoals je die gewend bent.



De samples kun je opnemen, bewerken en inkorten. Ook kun je ze gemakkelijk met behulp van een af kaart van en op je pc zetten. Met in totaal 120 samples en patronen per af kaart kun je snel het aantal geluiden uitbreiden.



Wel is er een lichte ruis als je dit apparaat aansluit op andere apparatuur als bijvoorbeeld de roland tr-8.



Daarnaast is het erg lastig om een patroon in te spelen met geluiden op de 1/6e of 1/32e tel. Dit omdat de metronoom enkel per 1/4e tel gaat.



Verder erg leuk en handig apparaat!
