High-grade mastering compression from SPL: The Iron. This incomparable compressor is designed around a 'Vari-Mu' circuit that adjusts the voltage of the cathode of the tubes according to your settings, making incredibly subtle and almost inaudible compression tweaks possible. The primary task of the SPL Iron is to melt and meld a complete mix. With the intelligently arranged and spaciously designed control panel, all parameters can be set with great accuracy while illuminated VU meters monitor your progress.
SPL Iron: Serious Compression
Looking deeper, the Iron compressor gives even more than expected. The side-chain function enables the compression of audio based on a different audio signal. For this there are 4 different filters available with which you can focus the side-chain signal in just the right way. In addition, there are no fewer than six rectifier tubes (rectifiers) available, the sound of which can be manually set. Finally, there is an 'air bass' and 'tape roll-off' function to shape the overall timbre.
Application
This compressor is primarily designed for mastering. More specifically, the SPL Iron has been developed to fuse multiple tracks together by giving you control over the incoming and outgoing and even making it possible to achieve significant overloads. As such, this unit is a perfect bus or group compressor. Also, if you're just looking to add open, enveloping warmth to a project, it's absolutely possible to use the unique sound characteristics of this compressor on a separate channel.
