Información del producto

General

The TB12 - Tone Beast sounds nothing short of phenomenal when you set it free. Use it to record guitar or bass and you'll see what we mean. When your recording levels head towards the red zone, harmonic distortion will be added for a beautifully edgy, saturated sound with extra dynamics on top of the original input signal. The operational amplifiers are switchable and can even be replaced. The ability to do that gives you different sound characteristics, which makes the TB12 one extremely versatile preamp. As you'd expect from Warm Audio, the preamp has discrete signal paths and the universally-praised CineMag transformers.

Switchable opamps and transformers

Being able to switch between different sounds makes the TB12 truly unique; in fact, the transformers as well as the operational amplifiers are switchable. The two CineMag transformers are constructed from different materials— one contains 50% nickel and the other is 100% steel. The nickel transformer has more control over the high and low frequencies than the steel one, which adds more colour, or liveliness, to the original sound. It can best be thought of as a natural EQ that will add more dynamism and character to your mix. This goes for the opamps too. You can choose between the x731 (Melcor 1731) or the x18 (Dean Jensen's 918), each of which add their own subtle flavour to your tone.

Opamps: what are they and what do they do?

In the '60s and '70s, many amplifiers and consoles were built with operational amplifiers in the preamp. They were normally glued in, which made them almost impossible to remove and analyse. That was exactly the point, as manufacturers wanted to protect the unique tonal character of their amps. Over time, that policy changed however, and manufacturers allowed their opamps to be removed and used in other units. That policy still continues today, meaning you can now change opamps to get different sounds. The TB12 - Tone Beast is a microphone amplifier that takes advantage of this possibility.
