General
As soon as you start to play Meinl's Byzance B16SAH Benny Greb Sand Hat signature hi-hats, you'll hear a warm, versatile sound. This was something Benny paid particular attention to when he started designing the Sand Hats in 2010. A 14-inch version came out the same year and now, there's a 16-inch version that's perfect for live performances as well as studio use.
Sound and features
The original 14-inch hi-hats were developed through close collaboration between Meinl and Greb, but as time moved on they both realised that a 16-inch version might be even more versatile. The Meinl Byzance B16SAH Benny Greb Sand Hat hi-hats produce a dark, warm and balanced 'chick' and have an excellent stick response and a medium to low volume. The B20 alloy has a sandblasted finish that gives it a raw edge in terms of both sound and appearance. These 16-inch hi-hats are hammered by hand in Turkey.
