General
The 15-inch Byzance Extra Dry Medium Thin Hi-hat is hand-hammered in Meinl's own factory in Turkey. These hi-hat cymbals live up to their name: they sound extremely dry, with a low, trashy and short sound. This is thanks to the untwisted and hand-hammered surface.
Meinl B15EDMTH Byzance Extra Dry Medium Thin: wide sound
Large-format hi-hats have become very popular in recent years. They produce a wide sound with plenty of low-end and volume but remain controlled and focused sounding. This 15-inch hi-hat consists of a B20 bronze alloy and is very suitable for the music styles of rock, funk, RnB and jazz. This hi-hat is also an absolute asset in the studio.
Raw
The raw finish and untreated material made from the B20 bronze alloy (80% copper, 20% tin) result in an extreme, dark sound with a short sustain. You get a lot of low frequencies from this 16-inch hi-hat, which has a dominating character. Really cutting with high notes this Byzance Extra Dry Medium Thin doesn't do; its volume is civilised. The character of the sound, especially with half-open hi-hat, keeps it between menacing and esoteric. The stick response is dark, with a slight wash.
