General

The Slötvå stompbox by Walrus Audio adds modulation to long reverb tails and dreamy ambience to the overall guitar sound. First, select one of three reverb types: Rise is a swelling wave of sound, Dark adds the depth of a lower octave and Dream mists your tone with a vibrato-effect. Next, select one of three responsive modulation waveforms to accent the dynamics of the reverb. The classic, uniform and round waveform is found in Sine mode. Warp mode gives the sound the texture of warn vinyl and the wobble of ancient tape and in the Sink setting, you get a Bigsby-style, deep tone bend.

The Slötvå: A Tangible Dream for Ambient Guitarists

Using the five potentiometers mounted on the face of this true-bypass Walrus Audio pedal, simply dial in the effect shape and finish off your tone. The Depth pot manages the intensity while the Decay determines the length of the reverb tail. The Filter pot controls a high-pass filter and can be tweaked to shave off some of the lower frequencies and the Mix pot balances the wet and dry signals. The X pot controls the parameters individual to each reverb type so, when set to Dream, X alters the vibrato; when set to Rise, it controls the size of the swell; and in Dark mode, X adjusts the visibility of the added lower octave. What really slows things down is the Sustain footswitch. Hit it once and you'll get synth-like notes and chords that can be stretched on into infinity. Hit it again and the effect slowly dies off.
