The Slö stompbox by Walrus Audio adds modulation to long reverb tails and dreamy ambience to the overall guitar sound. First, select one of three reverb types: Rise is a swelling wave of sound, Dark adds depth with a lower octave and Dream mists your tone with a vibrato-effect. Next, choose one of three responsive modulation waveforms to accent the dynamics of the reverb. The classic, uniform and round waveform is found in Sine mode. Warp mode gives the texture of worn vinyl and the wobble of ancient tape and in the Sink setting, you get a Bigsby-style, deep tone bend.

The Slö: A Tangible Dream for Ambient Guitarists

Using the five potentiometers mounted on the face of this true-bypass Walrus Audio pedal, you can dial in the intensity and finish off your tone. The Depth pot manages this intensity while the Decay determines the length of the reverb tail. The Filter pot is literally a high-pass filter to shave off a little of the lower frequencies and the Mix pot balances the wet and dry signals. The X pot controls the parameters individual to each reverb type so, when set to Dream, X alters the vibrato. When set to Rise, it controls the size of the swell, and in Dark, X adjusts the visibility of the added lower octave. What really slows things down is the Sustain footswitch. Hit it once and you'll get synth-like notes and chords that are infinite. Hit it once more and the effect will die off slowly.
