The Line 6 DL4 MKII has arrived. After twenty years of service, Line 6 have given this legendary stompbox a worthy upgrade, retaining all the best bits of the original, while throwing in some fresh innovations. On the face of it, the MKII is a one-to-one emulation of the MKI, and by hitting a switch, you can even flip back to the MKI setup. But, since technology has moved on a bit since the dawn of the MKI, the DL4 MKII brings some welcome surprises.
The Line 6 DL4 MKII
The most obvious improvement is the overall sound quality of the effects - you're also getting more of them. Instead of the classic set of sixteen delays and echoes, you're now getting thirty, and via MIDI, access is granted to 128 presets instead of the eighteen offered by the first model. The looper recording time has been given a boost from fourteen seconds to a massive two-hundred-and-forty, and when you slot in a micro-SD card, you can record for even longer. An XLR microphone input has been fitted for vocal looping as well as a tap-tempo switch, and while most of the feel of the original has been lovingly retained (in fact, MKI users won't notice any difference in the switching layout), the MKII is a touch lighter and more slimline - built to fit the pedalboard of the more modern guitarist and to present new fans with a smooth and accessible introduction to an undeniable legend. This limited edition version comes in black.
