No one knows exactly how the flanger effect originated. It could have been the result of two tape recorders running together but not quite being in sync. Or perhaps someone accidentally brushed up against one in the studio during recording. At one point, the flanger was extremely popular but this popularity didn't last. Catalinbread put this down to modern electronic flangers being too boring and predictable. That's why they designed the Zero Point with the original modulation effect in mind. The Zero Point is quite simply the most direct analogy of a studio tape flanger that anybody has come up with. You can influence this effect in real time. This makes the Zero Point completely different from the countless other flangers on the market that produce that same old, boring, predictable sound that goes up and down. That's also why just one switch is needed, which changes the sound the longer you hold it. The Zero Point starts in subtractive mode where the effect is most extreme. Holding the switch longer takes you into positive phase mode, which is ideal for more subtle sounds like Van Halen's Cradle Will Rock.
