A playful reworking of the Alesis Bitrman, the Catalinbread Bitters mod-pedal lays down four classics but then with some insane twists to help things get proper adventurous, whether you're playing a guitar, bass, synth or drum machine. For a little (or a lot of) sample-rate reduction, you get the Decimator. For chipping everything right down, even to just 1 lonely bit, you get a Bitcrusher. In Ring Modulator mode, you get a crazy-fast tremolo that combines rapid modulation with additive and subtractive frequencies, while the Frequency Modulator can be used for a little deranged pitch vibrato.

The Catalinbread Bitters: Unhinged & Inspired

Using the program selector pot, you can determine just how far off the hook you want things to get. Three effects can be used in series, but the order can be flipped at will so you really get to play with the output. With your program selected, you can set the distortion level, adjust the sine-wave speed of the phaser with the Dual pot and then dig into the Bitters and Mix pots to put the finishing touches on your effect-and-pre-effect cocktail. The myriad possible results aren't just bonkers, but actually usable and definitely inspiring, whether it's the perfect day for some lush soundscaping or the perfect day to make a tasty sonic mess.
