Truetone Jekyll & Hyde V3 overdrive distortion

The Truetone (formerly Visual Sound) Jekyll & Hyde was one of the first true double effects pedals for guitar. This red classic consisted of an overdrive and a distortion section that could be used separately or together. Now, there is a third version of this great pedal. Unlike in previous versions, the overdrive and distortion circuits are completely separate, allowing for a wealth of new possibilities. What's more, Truetone paid close attention to what their customers wanted, and incorporated many of those wishes into the 3rd-generation Jekyll & Hyde.

Jekyll & Hyde V3: improvements

That Truetone indeed listens to their customers is immediately apparent from the Jekyll & Hyde V3's new, more subdued design. Where previous versions took up a lot of space due to their elaborate shapes, the V3 was given a practical rectangular shape. Furthermore, the pedal now consists of two completely separate circuits. Not only can you use both of them individually and together, you can even adjust the signal path, or use the J&H as a signal splitter. Besides that, this new iteration of the classic pedal was given some additional features that make it more versatile than ever.

Jekyll & Hyde V3: elaborate tone controls

The Bass Boost feature was a very popular part of previous Jekyll & Hyde models. However, it applied to both channels at the same time, and could only be turned on or off. On the V3, both channels have a separate, steplessly adjustable bass boost. Another new feature is the 'Clean Mix' on the overdrive side, that allows you to adjust the balance between the dry signal and the overdrive signal. Of course, much has stayed the same, as Truetone's buttery overdrive is still there, as is the versatile distortion that ranges from rich and creamy to screaming high gains. In short, it's everything you'd expect a Jekyll & Hyde pedal to be, and then some!
