General
Mesa Boogie have already managed to cram their legendary five-band graphic equaliser into the stompbox form of the Boogie Five-Band, so why not stick it on the face of the ever popular Throttle Box distortion pedal? The result is simply the Throttle Box EQ. The well-known Hi/Lo-mode can now be toggled in and out with a footswitch while the previously internal Boost control now sits proudly on the front panel. The immense power that the built-in 5-band equaliser adds to the already defined distortion of the Throttle Box is sure to become a pedalboard standard.
The Tonal Range of the Mesa Boogie Throttle Box EQ
The Gain pot adds tight, even percussive overdrive that, depending on whether the LO or HI gain mode is switched on, shapes tasty Blues crunch or sharp Nu-Metal style saturation. At higher settings, a screeching distortion with masses of sustain is unleashed. Rock and Metal devotees can tweak the EQ to create that classic Mesa Boogie 'V-Curve' and conjure a satisfyingly deep scoop. Subtle colour to total chaos is now utterly possible with the Throttle Box EQ.
Switchable HI and LO Gain Mode
Just like the original version, this particular Throttle Box comes with a HI and LO gain mode with the welcome addition of dedicated volume controls to dial in a convenient solo boost. Meanwhile, the graphic equaliser can be applied to the HI and LO gain modes simultaneously for a global EQ curve, or individually so that you can switch between two 'presets' with different EQ and gain settings. A Mid Cut control is included for a global scoop in the midrange, regardless of the EQ while a Boost switch can be kicked in to fatten everything up even more.
