He always has this turned on and relies on it, together with his guitar settings, to create a wide range of sounds. It's almost as if the entire setup functions as a single instrument. Turning the volume control down on your guitar will produce a sparkling clean sound, while turning it up again will give you a sound perfect for creamy leads and tight rhythms - any way the wind blows.
