General
The Meinl AE-FD22T-D Artisan Edition 22-inch Mizhar Walnut Brown is a modern version of the Mizhar. The Mizhar is an instrument, originally from Syria, that has been used in folk music for centuries, but nowadays also features in contemporary music. This 22-inch diameter Mizhar is made of rubber wood, finished with a walnut brown matt lacquer. Goat skin of the highest quality is used for the skin, so that the skin is the same thickness everywhere on the drum and the sound is warm and even.
Playing the Mizhar
The Mizhar can be played standing or sitting, with both hands on the edge of the skin. With a depth of 4 inches and a specially designed carrying rim for the rim, this instrument delivers deep tones and clear short strokes. The AE-FD22T-D is fitted with a hole for the thumb for grip, and on the inside the drum can be tuned using the supplied allen key.
