General
This pandeiro is made of plastic and has a 10-inch diameter. The frame is strung with a synthetic sheet and fitted with chrome-plated steel shells. The sheet is tuned by an odd number of tensioning screws. Tuning this pandeiro is therefore best if you always skip one turnbuckle (1-3-5-7-2-4-6). Meinl supplies this pandeiro including tuning spanner.
Pandeiro
Like the tambourine, the pandeiro is also a frame drum played by hand. The main difference is in the jingles. These have a different bulge and generally sound drier with less sustain. The pandeiro is used in many Brazilian musical styles including samba, coco, choro and capoeira. Originally, however, the pandeiro comes from Spain and Portugal. Here, this frame drum is also called pandeireta or pandereta. Well-known pandeiro players include Paulinho Da Costa and Cyro Baptista. Playing the pandeiro involves a lot of technique.
