The PL series by Electro Voice is a dynamic microphone designed for professional live and studio bass drum amplification. Its frequency response is such that it reproduces the natural sound of your bass drum without having to make adjustments to the tone. It produces tight bass tones, has an adjusted mid-range specifically for kick drums, and the trebles deliver the kind of detail that drummers love to hear. Super-cardioid polar pattern

The super-cardioid polar pattern ensures that your kick drum sound is well isolated from other drum sounds in the vicinity, which makes mixing your drum kit a lot nicer, because there is little crosstalk. Moreover, this polar pattern also makes more gain possible before the PL 33 starts to feedback. This means it can work with a high sound pressure, which is certainly desirable for a bass drum. Capsule protection

The PL 33's capsule is protected in a number of ways. The most obvious safety feature is the 2-ply metal grille, which ensures that the microphone won't have any issues with air flow noise. Intense air streams are produced around the port in the resonant head of your kick drum, and microphones typically translate that into low noise. But the PL 33 doesn't have any issues with that! Furthermore, the grille's interior is lined with a foam layer that keeps air noise out. Finally, another extra layer of foam is also located directly above the capsule to protect it from dust and the like.
