The SM89 is a directional condenser microphone that is specifically designed for on-location film and TV productions, theatre recordings and nature documentaries. This Shure broadcasting microphone is highly directional thanks to its directional pickup pattern, which allows you to select what you record. This is perfect for TV productions, where you only want to pick up the subject and leave everything else out.

The frequency range of the SM89 ranges from 60 Hz to 20 kHz and this is wide enough to pick up anything you want, but hardly any wind noise and handling sounds. The low-off filter also helps out in this regard. The frequency range is optimised for speech, the high frequencies are slightly accentuated compared to the lower ones. The SM89 is fit for vocals, so it is also perfect for theatre productions!
