General
Record on the spot thanks to the near-pocket-sized that is the Zoom U-22 audio interface. This portable studio rig isn't just super-compact and lightweight but offers everything you would expect of a professional interface, from the outstanding preamp to the 24-bit, 96kHz recording quality. And while it can be mains powered with a compatible power supply (not included), this interface can even be powered by just two AA batteries, removing the need to mess around with external power supplies and extra cables, making it a solid partner when working on less hospitable locations.
Options & Connections
Next to a combo Hi-Z jack/XLR input, the U-22 comes equipped with a 3.5mm mini-jack line-input and a headphone output. Via the USB port, you can pair it with your Mac or PC, but even better than that, you can even connect this widget to an iPad using the compatible camera connection kit (not included) while the set of RCA stereo output can be hooked up to a set of monitors or a mixer. To finish, Zoom have also built in a +48 Volt phantom power supply to accommodate condenser microphones.
What Latency Issues?
Since the audio is monitored via the interface itself, before it passes through your computer, zero latency monitoring is a given, so you're always assured of a tight monitor mix during recording. To get you started, the Zoom U-22 also comes including a download code for Ableton Live 9 Lite, giving you direct access to one of the most renowned DAWs almost straight out of the box, so you can not only record to a professional level, but apply pro-grade effects like delay, chorus, reverb, EQ and compression to your work, giving it those all important finishing touches.
