The UR series by Steinberg has been expanded on with two audio interfaces, the UR-RT2 and the UR-RT4. The RT2 may be the smallest of the two, but its size doesn't mean it's only suitable for small-scale productions. On the contrary! The UR-RT2 is an impressive audio interface with all the connections a standard computer lacks for audio production such as MIDI, so you can connect old-school synthesizers for instance. It's also equipped with XLR/jack inputs with switchable phantom power and one with Hi-Z, extra jack inputs and a very good headphone socket.

What makes the Steinberg UR-RT2 so special? The secret lies in the high-end technology of Rupert Neve Designs, whose claim to fame are enormous (vintage) analogue mixing consoles that are only found in large-scale professional studios. The switchable Neve transformers on this UR-RT2's inputs are responsible for that unmistakable Neve effect, which is rich with musical harmonics. So you won't have to waste any time getting started, Steinberg have included a special entry-level version of Cubase with this audio interface. dat je geen drumstel gaat opnemen dat je twee ingangen hebt die voorzien zijn van een tranformator.
Op de achterkant kun je een mixer aansluiten en toch nog een drumstel opnemen maar dan wel op 2 kanalen, dat zou ik zelf niet zo prettig vinden omdat ik alle track uitbunding wil mixen.
Voor de twee inputs aan de voorkant heb je diverse mogelijkheden, input 1 kan al je instrument en low-z microfoons opnemen en input 2 doet dan de rest. Wat je dan ook kunt doen is je mix of alle tracks die genormaliseerd zijn op je telefoon zetten en door de twee inputs aan de voorkant met transformator laten lopen. Je signaal krijgt dan een mooi gesatureerd en open karakter.
Pas dan wel op dat je gain staging goed is wat anders hoor je dan misschien teveel als je gaat masteren.
Ik vind deze interface echt super, achteraf had ik misschien zelfs liever de UT-RT4 gekocht want dan kun je een stereo paar output naar de voorkant door pluggen voor het transformator karakter. hoe dan ook
het is belangerijk om te weten wat je gaat doen met de interface, beide interfaces zijn voor thuis gebruik meer dan voldoende, ook omdat mensen met midi hun drumkit kunnen aansluiten op de UR-RT2 en dan gebruik kunnen maken van eventuele digitale drumkit libraries die je misschien ooit gekocht hebt.
Als je de trs output van je drumkit gaat opnemen zit je in dezelfde situatie als de mixer die je achter op de interface aansluit, je hebt dan een stereo mix van je hele drumkit.

De Neve input trafo's voegen juist dat speciale toe wat je van de merknaam mag verwachten. Mijn voorkeur op alle geluidsbronnen, behalve piezo: deze wordt er nasaal en metaal-achtig door.
De trafo's zijn een waardevolle toevoeging zowel op mic signalen als D.I. en zelfs duidelijk merkbaar bij de meegeleverde amp simulaties, die met de Neve veel realistischer klinken en reageren. De zang ligt veel lekkerder in de "track" en dat is een grote plus t.o.v. andere audio interfaces in deze prijsklasse.
Voor drums opname is de UR-RT4 een betere optie, om op de 4 meest essentiële mics die sound te kunnen toepassen!
