RME's flagship UFX audio interface is part of the brand's Fireface series. It boasts 60 analogue and digital audio channels (30 inputs and 30 outputs), a USB and a FireWire connection, on-board DSP effects, and sublime audio quality. Four of the twelve analogue inputs are equipped with a digital mic and instrument preamp with phantom power. As well as PC and Mac, the Fireface UFX is also compatible with iPad and as a standalone USB recorder.
Fireface UFX: a plethora of possibilities
The Fireface UFX has a maximum recording resolution of 24 bits/192 kHz and offers plenty of connection options. Besides 12 analogue in and outputs, this interface features a stereo AES/EBU in and output and two ADAT inputs and outputs. It also has a word clock and a MIDI connector. Use the intuitive TotalMix software to adjust volume control, routing, and channel settings, as well as your on-board digital DSP effects.
DURec: direct USB recording and the iPad
RME's drivers for PC and Mac are known for their low latency and high stability, but boasts another two advantages as well. Depending on your application, you can record up to 22 channels at the same time using your iPad. Also, thanks to the DURec functionality, you can use the UFX as a standalone recorder. Your tracks are then recorded individually directly onto a USB stick.
