General
With the 8PRE-ES, MOTU further expands its already impressive arsenal of audio interface. The 8pre-es has 24 inputs and 28 outputs, 8 of which have high-end preamps. Both USB and Thunderbolt are supported so that, if you have one if these, you might as well get rid of the rest of your studio gear. 52 channels can be used simultaneously and if that's not quite enough, you can use the ADAT inputs and outputs to expand and gain a further 16 inputs and 16 outputs. The superior ESS Saber32 Ultra DACs, also included in the 1248, provide an excellent spatial experience during recording and playback.
Broad Features
The 8PRE-ES is fitted with a real 'talk button', which makes communication with artists easy during the recording sessions and you get a number of serious DSP effects to use for monitoring during sessions or in the final mix. There's also a large routing matrix that can be used to route every input to every output and it's also possible to use the 8pre-es as a stand-alone unit and operate it wirelessly via an iPad or notebook. The aluminium construction of the 8PRE-ES is lightweight and robust with a tightly designed front display.
