With the Carbon, AVID unleash a progressive, even revolutionary audio interface with immense connection options and the ability to run AAX DSP effect plug-ins via eight internal HDX DSP chips, easing the CPU load of your computer; reducing latency to less than a millisecond; smoothing out the workflow; and cracking open a fresh world of potential. The DSP effects are activated at the literal push of a button, and when it comes to conversion, the Carbon is nothing short of a game-changer. Armed with an immense 192kHz at 32-bit sample rate, the audio resolution smashes all limits.

Crystal-Clear Preamps and a Mass of I/Os

The main event when it comes to the Carbon has to be the on-board preamps. These are the most transparent preamps that AVID has ever developed, and via the 'Variable Z', the impedance can be optimised to match that of the connected microphone (including ribbons) or instrument. The internal clocking has also been taken to the next level, since an FPGA driven 100MHz oscillator reacts two times faster than the clocking of most standard interfaces. This makes the distortion near none-existent and guarantees crystal-clear audio reproduction. With 16 ADAT input and output channels, ethernet connection, eight analogue inputs and outputs over DB25, and eight preamps, a full band can be recorded with ease, and in the highest quality possible.

A Genuine Hybrid

Each AAX DSP plug-in has a counterpart in the normal plug-in world, meaning that you can record and monitor with the AAX DSP plug-ins, and if you then start collaborating with a Pro Tools user that isn't lucky enough to own a Carbon interface, you can comfortably work with the 'native' version of the same plug-ins and set up a seamless workfow between both worlds, since both versions offer exactly the same level of audio quality, and therefore perfect compatibility. Besides the 116 AAX plug-ins that come included with Pro Tools, Carbon comes with a fat bundle of plug-ins from eminent developers like Native Instruments, UVI, Embody, McDSP, Arturia, and Plugin Alliance.
