General
An original old 1964 left-handed Telecaster is almost impossible to find. If you do, it is probably worth more than a family hatchback, or two. Luckily, there's the 2012 Fender American Vintage series that consists of hand-made guitars modelled after Fender's most important and popular models from the past, available as both right and left-handed editions. This American Vintage '64 Telecaster LH was made with the same materials and according to the same specifications as the original so that it is the most accurate replica imaginable with the same looks, playability and sound. It has an authentic 3-tone Sunburst finish and comes with a vintage-style brown case and replica accessories, also known as case candy.
Distinctive features of the American Vintage '64 Telecaster LH
In 1964, the Telecaster went through the same turbulent changes as the music of that period. Guitarists demanded for a warmer sound and a more comfortable narrow neck. Fender's answer was the slender, round-laminated C-profile neck with a rosewood fretboard. A distinctive feature of this fretboard was that it was only several millimetres thick and that it followed the radius of the frets. Also, its position markers became a lot bigger and made of mother-of-pearl. This and more (like a lightweight alder body and a 3-layer white pickguard with 8-hole mounting to counter warping, for instance) you can now find on this left-handed American Vintage '64 Telecaster. Additionally, this guitar is equipped with vintage-correct threaded steel bridge saddles, the distinctive Top Hat knob on the pickup switch and staggered poles on the bridge pickup for a more balanced volume.
American Vintage series: more accurate than ever before
Along with the American Standard series, Fender decided to give the 2012 American Vintage series a massive update. It has been expanded with new, iconic '50s and '60s models that have a minute vintage accuracy. To get to this point, the guitar giant tracked down and studied specs and details of numerous original vintage guitars. Fender even brushed off the tools of the period to make the result as authentic as possible. There's a good reason that these new models represent Fender's famed, 60-year long history in music.
