What do the sixties, Fishman preamps and the word 'Paramount' have in common? They're all united in the new PM-3 Deluxe Triple O electro-acoustic guitar by Fender! This model is drenched in nostalgia, but is equipped with the very latest in modern technology, like the special custom-built Fishman PM preamplifier. This guitar was designed at the former Custom Shop and built in China, which means it was manufactured at low cost, but with great attention to detail, using high-quality wood types.
Paramount PM-3 Deluxe Triple O Natural: a beautiful finish
The PM-3 Deluxe Triple O boasts a gorgeous tone that is a direct result of the kinds of wood it's made of. It has a solid sitka spruce top and the sides and back are made of East-Indian rosewood. This, in combination with an ebony fretboard with stunning mother-of-pearl and abalone Concert Tone position marker inlays, delivers a full sound with sparkling highs. A small, black headstock, black machine heads, an ebony bridge and bone saddle all come straight from the seventies while the Checkerboard rosette and binding on the body and Kingman-style pickguard are elements taken directly from Fenders made in the sixties. To finish off the nostalgic look, they went even further back in time and used the iconic Fender logo from the late forties.
A sound to appreciate
The Paramount is a real all-rounder, partially thanks to the cutaway, the Triple O shape and the neck with comfortable C-profile. A custom-built Fishman PM preamplifier that was specifically voiced for each particular model in the Paramount series ensures your guitar sounds as authentic as possible. You can adjust the preamp using three controls (volume, bass and treble) and it even has a built-in chromatic tuner with display and phase shifter, all of which is tucked away discretely in the shoulder of the guitar, so it's easily accessible but doesn't disrupt the smooth overall look.

De bouwkwaliteit van de PM-3 Deluxe is zeer goed. Alles is goed afgewerkt. Ook de delen die men normaal gesproken niet bekijkt, de binnenkant, ziet er netjes uit. Geen lijmresten, geen ruwe houtdelen. Niets op aan te merken gewoon.
De achterkant en de zijkanten zijn van palissander. De top van sparrenhout. Dit zijn massieve houten delen. Voor een Amerikaanse gitaar in deze prijsklasse is dat meestal niet zo. Andere merken doen concessies in de kwaliteit hout of gebruiken laminaat. Fender heeft hier gekozen om de gitaar in China te laten bouwen met strenge kwaliteitseisen.
De brug en de toets zijn van ebbenhout. Ook hier weer de beste keuze. Wat ook bijzonder is, is dat de kam en het zadel van been zijn. Ook hier weer een van de betere keuzes. Het benen zadel in combinatie met de pinnen van ebbenhouten zorgen er voor dat de trilling van de snaren direct en precies wordt overgebracht op de kast. Anderen merken kiezen hier vaak voor plastic om de prijs te drukken.
Klank.
Ik heb de gitaar nu pas een week. De echte klank zal zich pas ontwikkelen na een half jaar of zo. Maar het is nu al heel goed te horen dat alle topmaterialen gaan zorgen voor een mooi en warm laag, niet te zwaar, maar wel duidelijk aanwezig. Ronde middentonen en een sprankelend hoog. Het is een mooi gebalanceerd geheel.
Misschien ik dat eens de snaren zou verwisselen om wat uit te proberen. Maar dat is zeker niet iets wat ik nu ga doen. Eerst maar een lekker genieten van deze gitaar.
De fabriek set-up van deze gitaar is ook goed afgewogen Daar hoeft niemand wat aan te doen. De hoogte van de snaren is voor iedereen goed. Strummers kunnen stevig aanslaan zonder fretbuzz, terwijl fingerpickers niet hoeven te klagen over pijn aan hun vingers bij het spelen van de hoge noten.
Ik raad iedere wat serieuzere gitaarspeler (met een budget tot 1000 euro) aan om ook deze gitaar te proberen. Het is volgens mij een van de beste gitaren in deze prijsklasse en kan de concurrentie aan met gitaren die rond 1500 euro kosten.

En este caso, el cuerpo dreadnought PM-1 y el cuerpo triple O PM-3 se caracterizan por llevar tapa armónica maciza de madera de pícea Adirondack. Se puede elegir entre un modelo con aros y fondo de caoba maciza o de madera de palisandro.
