General

I have long been a fan of the vintage Epiphones after having seen footage of the beatles, frampton and othe great bands and artists playing them, they have a style and sound that has long been lost in todays music.
I have owned a Gibson J45 along with an Epiphones: Elite J200, masterbilt AJ500RCE and the Inspired by 64 Texan, and I can honestly say this guitar is the best of the epiphones by a mile and next to the Gibson J45, there's not a huge jump in quality between them.
This is a class guitar, looks great, feels great, plays like a dream and sounds like a top line guitar.
I currently own the Epiphone Masterbilt Frontier (which I love and is also up there) and originally bought the Texan as a second "gigging" guitar, one to take out to parties, freids houses and get bashed up in coffee shops etc and keep my Frontier in the house as my no.1, however this theory changed upon the first few chords on the Texan, the Texan has the classic sounds you expect from a Martin or Gibson, its light and bright on the summery sparkling wine and salad highs that can lift your spirit to a sunny day on the beach, and has a deep dark velvet red wine and espresso coffee, autumn leaves and open fires bass that shakes you to your core, it can be a loud thrashing beast that compels the neighbours to join in on percussion and leaves your ears ringing or can be a soft gentle sensitive friend that can give you the most beautiful rendition of "Blackbird" that the Texan first played back in 68 and still must be played regularly as a rule :-)
To summarise, this is an incredibly good sounding guitar for the money, the build quality I would say reflects the price, the solid woods are put together very well but the finishing seems a little unfinished as it has a few rough bits on the bindings and edges that needed a bit of a clean up but nothing that a bit of elbow grease and a damp rag couldn't fix and nothing that detracts from the overall quality and sound of this guitar, the aged feel is great, the finish is more satin than gloss but the perfect amount to let it breathe and not stifle the sound as a heavy gloss can, the neck, frets headstock and tuners all fit perfectly with the look, the long scale suits me so well and makes it so easy to play, the neck is a dream to play from the twelfth to the first with ease. I've not plugged it in as yet and am not worried about the plugged in sound as that can be tweaked and fettled with to suit the player, however I am looking forward to it. I can honestly say I haven't been this exited about a guitar for a long time and it has re invigorated my playing and my love for music. Buy one, you wont be disapointed!
