Here, 'HSS' refers to the pickup load-out, which comes with a humbucker in the bridge position, a single-coil pickup in the middle and another single-coil at the neck. This configuration allows this Squier Strat to spit anything from fattened-up rock sounds and warm leads to sparkling cleans. What's particularly interesting for beginners is the poplar body, which is a tad slimmer and lighter than a standard Fender Stratocaster.

The Sonic Stratocaster HSS: Up-to-Snuff Playability
