General

The Squier Classic Vibe 70s Telecaster Thinline is based on the legendary model that Fender introduced in 1972. This attractively-priced guitar packs authentic Seventies flair and comes armed with two Fender Designed Wide Range humbucker pickups to please players looking for beefed-up double-coil tone. Finished with black block position markers and an equally tight, matching pickguard, and finished with an unmissable f-hole, this is one amazingly accessible yet classic Tele

The Classic Vibe 70s Telecaster Thinline: Full Sound with Bite

The slimline chambered body ensures a full acoustic sound with plenty of bite. Plugged in, you're getting the best of a humbucker and single-coil pickup in one and, thanks to the set of volume and tone pots and the 3-way pickup switch, you have a wide variety of sounds at your fingertips. Lastly, the maple neck has a C profile while the fretboard has a flatter, 9.5-inch radius and narrow-tall frets, resulting in more than excellent playing comfort.

This is my first Squier and I thought I would take a chance given the good reviews I have seen for Classic Vibe guitars. It is obvious that the guitar was built on a production line with very little time spent on it. Out of the box, the guitar was in a poor state. As others have mentioned elsewhere, the neck was filthy and there were white stains/marks all around the neck binding/edges. It looked like dried glue stains. I managed to clean this off with my fingernail and a cloth. Next the bridge was atrocious. To save money and time, Squier fit the same size bridge saddle screws to every saddle. Given the arch of the neck, this means that the saddle screws on the top and bottom screws are much too high and they tear up your hand when playing the guitar. I have seen this problem on other Squier guitars, so this is obviously a common cost saving thing. Luckily I had some spare shorter saddle screws and managed to fix this myself. Finally, the nut was very poorly cut with the strings too high off the fretboard. I had to take the guitar to my local luthier who managed to fix this for me. He said that the nut slots were too high and unevenly cut. Finally after stringing with a fresh set of 11s, I then had to tighten the truss rod. I have now ended up with a very nice playing guitar and I am happy with it. So if you buy this guitar (and I suspect this applies to other Squiers) then be prepared to spend some time and effort getting it right - I strongly recommend getting a professional to tune the nut as this can be difficult without the proper tools and experience. Given the intense competition at the cheaper end of the market (eg. Sire, Jet, etc) I think Squier need to up their game and improve the QC on their guitars. I bought a £150 Jet guitar recently which was much better out of the box and needed nothing significant doing to it.
