Just imagine how great it would be if you didn't have to cart an entire arsenal of instruments to a show or studio recording session - let alone paying for that many guitars. The Line 6 JTV-69S now allows you to do just that. In addition to its own great sound - produced by three vintage-style alnico single-coil pickups - you can choose between ten categories with sounds of the most coveted instruments from the '50s, '60s and '70s. From solid-bodies and hollow-body electric guitars to acoustic dreadnoughts and jumbo resonators to even a sitar and a banjo. Moreover, should you wish to experiment with the guitar's tuning, you can take your pick from ten alternative tunings such as DADGAD, drop-D and open G, in addition to the standard EADGBE.

The Line 6 JTV-69S James Tyler Variax SSS' many faces

The body of the JTV-69S is made of alder and sports a high-gloss black lacquer finish. Both its neck and fretboard are made of maple, giving this guitar a somewhat brighter, more sparkling sound. The solid James Tyler tremolo bridge, graphite string nut and locking tuners provide excellent tuning stability. Even without the Variax system the JTV-69S is a great guitar. However, it's the built-in sounds and tunings that make it truly spectacular. A simple turn on the Model and Alt Tuning controls and you can go from a solid body with single-coil pickups and an open-G tuning to a hollow-body with humbuckers or FilterTrons in baritone tuning.

Variax Workbench software and VDI

The James Tyler Variax SSS comes with Line 6's Variax Workbench software, your personal, virtual Custom Shop in which to create your dream configuration. The software allows you to combine 28 body types with 17 different pickups and thus combine your unique sound and tuning. Out phase pickups, reverse or stack them - anything goes! All of your creations can subsequently be assigned to the controls on the guitar. Moreover, the VDI (Variax Digital Interface) allows you to link your guitar to your Line 6 POD HD, POD XT and POD X3 processors and Vetta II guitar amp with just a single cable. When you change a patch on the POD, the guitar automatically tunes to the right sound.

Escribió lo siguiente sobre Line 6 JTV-69SB James Tyler Variax SSS Black

Ik speel inmiddels 46 jaar gitaar en wilde naast een Les Paul en een SG wel eens wat anders. Heel toevallig kwam ik bij deze gitaar terecht.

Reactie na 20 minuten in het "testhok": come to daddy!

Nog niet vaak een gitaar vastgehad die zo goed in de hand ligt, zo lekker speelt en vooral: zo geweldig klinkt.
De Alnico pickups produceren een ronduit schitterend geluid, die kan je zo op een Stratocaster kwijt,
maar het feest begint pas écht na een druk op de modeling knop. Noem een episch gitaarmodel en de JTV-69 komt angstaanjagend dicht in de buurt.
Strat, Tele, Les Paul, Firebird, Gretsch Silver Jet, Rickenbacker 360: een kleine 40.000 aan gitaren met een draai aan de knop. Indrukwekkend.
Akoestische gitaar zegt u? Gibson J-200, Martin D-28, Guild F212 (ach ja, een 12-string, waarom niet?). Nog eens 25.000 terug in de spaarsok! Veel gekker moet het niet worden. Of wacht Banjo? Dobro? Sitar? Yep, ook dat kan.
28 gitaren voor de prijs van 1: daar wordt een mens (en zeker een gitarist) toch helemaal blij van?

Helemaal te gek wordt het met de tuning knop: drop D, halve toon omlaag, hele toon omlaag, open D, open A: je moet het horen om het te geloven.
Speel je dat ene nummer normaal met een capo op de vierde fret? Das toch geen gezicht? Sla gewoon je eigen tuning op en gebruik die capo voortaan als wasspeld bij hevige wind.

Heel de handel kan je bovendien zelf configureren met een heel degelijke, intuïtieve interface: de Variax Workbench HD.
Iets meer volume voor de hoge E-snaar: geef maar 10% bij. Toch niet helemaal tevreden met die humbucker aan de brug? Dan vervang je die toch gewoon door een P90?
Pickups iets dichter bij mekaar zetten, de pickup aan de nek 14° draaien, 1,5 dB meer voor de pickup aan de brug, een gitaar helemaal zelf bouwen: het kan allemaal. Even saven en uploaden naar de gitaar. Valt het resultaat tegen? Doe een factory reset en duik terug de virtuele werkplaats in!

Tot zover de lofzang over de gitaar, nu Bax-shop nog even bewieroken!

Thuisgekomen met mijn fonkelnieuwe exemplaar, merkte ik dat er een vervelende buzz zat op de B- en hoge E-snaar. Beetje liggen sleutelen aan de actie en de halspen, maar niet goed te krijgen.
Terug naar Goes, waar we mogelijk een klein foutje in het design hebben vastgesteld; zoals bij elk Strat- of Tele-model maken de snaren (vooral de B en de E) voorbij de topkam een erg kleine hoek en hoort daar eigenlijk een string guide te staan. Geen probleem: die werd er gelijk gratis op gemonteerd. (dat doe je toch liever niet zelf: gelijk een schroef in zon nagelnieuw instrument draaien )
En weg was de buzz. Bedankt voor de service Peter en Maikel!

Na een paar dagen bleek dat stemmen een hele opgave was: probleem met de mensuurlente.
Nog eens naar Goes? Ach ja, waarom niet? Die E-bow die ik nog wilde, kon ik eigenlijk net zo goed gaan afhalen, toch?
Klusje was op een paar minuten (alweer zonder kosten) geklaard. Nogmaals bedankt Peter.
