General
The Ibanez AR620-BK is quite a remarkable guitar. It's based on the solid-body Artist models from the 1970s, and as a special touch it has an ebony fretboard with a beautiful Tree of Life inlay. The body itself is also adorned with abalone purfling and gold-plated hardware that contrasts nicely with the black lacquer finish.
Ibanez AR620-BK: high-end features
The AR (Artist) series features a distinctive mahogany body with an arched top and two cutaways. This particular model, the AR620, has a set-in 3-piece maple neck with a smoothed heel for better access to the higher frets. Another example of Ibanez's great craftsmanship is in the fret edges, which are rounded and polished to make moving your hand up and down the neck more comfortable.
Super 80 'Flying Finger' pickups
The AR620-BK is equipped with Ibanez Super 80 pickups, better known as the 'Flying Finger' pickups. Despite their high output, these covered humbuckers sound bright and punchy, offering a rich, clean sound. Besides two volume and tone controls, there are also two Tri-sound switches that toggle each pickup between serial and parallel mode. Finally, using the coil-split switch hidden in the push/pull tone knob, you can effectively turn the humbucker at the bridge into a single-coil pickup. Of course, the Ibanez AR620 comes with a case, so you can store and transport it safely.
