Hot and fresh from the Gibson Modern Collection, the Gibson SG Tribute comes primed for brutal performance. This American double-cut classic bears the iconic, brutal horns and, since SG stands for 'solid guitar', the body has been hewn from a solid slab of mahogany before being mounted with a 490T and 490R open-coil humbucker fit to amplify the rich voice of the potent yet warm acoustic foundation. To finish the classic styling, the whole has been coated in the buttery feel of a satin nitrocellulose lacquer. Softshell case included.

The Modern Collection SG Tribute: Comfortable Playability

In terms of playability, the SG Tribute follows the standard, time-tested Gibson recipe of a 24.75" scale length, that hits that golden sweet-spot between sound and string tension, and a 12" radius rosewood fretboard loaded with 22 medium frets. Whether grabbing chords or ripping leads, the feel is satisfyingly snug. The stable base, superb vibrational transfer and renowned sustain is provided by a lightweight aluminium Nashville Tune-O-Matic bridge and Stop Bar, while the Vintage Deluxe machine heads firm up the tuning.

Gibson Modern Collection SG Tribute Vintage Cherry Satin Electric Guitar with Soft Case

Hoewel deze Gibson een Tribute versie is, speelt deze gitaar alsof je een twee keer zo dure SG om je nek hebt hangen. De klank is, zoals je van een Gibson SG met twee 490 Humbuckers kunt verwachten: grommende en af en toe bijtende rockklank, waarbij akkoorden en solo's prachtig nauwkeurig blijven klinken, ook als je een aantal effectpedalen in je signaalketen stopt. Deze SG wordt standaard geleverd met Gibson Britewires snaren (dikte .010-.046), die ik heb vervangen door Ernie Ball Super Slinky (.009-.042), omdat ik die fijner vind spelen. Dat kun je rustig doen, het verandert niets aan de klank, De SG Tribute blijft een blues en rockmonster zonder weerga. De hals is een welkome verrassing: Gibson heeft de voor mij perfecte ronding van de hals gevonden, die als het ware gegoten in je handpalm ligt. De gitaar blijft perfect op stemming, hoe ruig je ook tekeer gaat. En zoals het bij een Amerikaanse gitaar altijd het geval is, de setup van de afgeleverde gitaar is fantastisch, hele lage actie en toch geen gerinkel van je snaren. Gezien het feit dat dat deze SG Tribute zo ongeveer gebouwd is om eeuwig mee te kunnen spelen, is er voor mij geen discussie over de prijs-kwaliteit verhouding, dit kan niet beter.

Wat een fijne gitaar! Pracht geluid en speelt voortreffelijk. En het bijzondere: hoefde bijna niks af te stellen, want actie was perfect bij levering. Alleen effe stemmen en spelen maar!
