A core member of Testament and the Alex Skolnick Trio, guitarist Alex Skolnick has been a venerable part of the ESP family since 2013 when he released his maiden signature model. Now a classic in its own right, the latest incarnation of the LTD AS-1FR comes coated in a Black Aqua Sunburst and has been fully upgraded for the new age. While the timeless Eclipse body-shape remains, some unique perks have been added in the form of a Floyd Rose tremolo bridge, a Double Locking nut, and to fully meet the demands of Skolnick himself; the body has been topped with flamed maple and mounted with a set of humbuckers complete with the flexibility provided by a push-pull coil-split switch.

Just like the previous editions, the AS-1FR FM has been gifted with a pair of Seymour Duncan pickups, so we're getting a JB at the bridge and a '59 at the neck - everything you need to support thumping rhythms as well as screaming solos - all framed by that tasty Jazz-flavoured tone. In essence, this model is able to handle any sonic profile you might want to dial in, and if you want to get rough, that Floyd Rose bridge and locking nut have everything in hand. The control section is made up of a volume pot per pickup and a three-way switch, and when the neck humbucker is selected, the tone pot can be popped to split the coil and unleash some single-coil-style spank.

Maximised Playing Comfort

The three-piece set-thru maple neck has been given a snug U-profile and topped with a rosewood fretboard loaded with twenty-two extra-jumbo frets for an immediately fast and light feel beneath the fret-hand. The tasteful abalone and mother-of-pearl inlay position blocks add a sweet, deluxe touch, while the mahogany body, maple top and deep-set neck lay down a warm and resonant foundation sound with an edge of bite. And, just so you know you've definitely got a genuine Skolnick signature in your hands, the truss-rod cover has been stamped with the AS signature logo.
