For those who can't stop dreaming of a 1959 Les Paul Standard of their own, Epiphone and the Gibson Custom Shop serve up a more affordable version of this classic solid-body guitar from the legendary '50s. With that said, it's little wonder that this model features a mahogany body and neck, which have been glued to one another via a stable long-tenon joint. For maximum visual impact, the body has been finished with a layer of AAA figured maple veneer and an aged dark burst-style coating, while the neck has a typical '59-style C-profile for good measure and then some.

The 1959 Les Paul Standard: Fully Upgraded

To get it ready for any and all modern guitarists, Epiphone and the Gibson Custom Shop have outfitted the 1959 LP Standard with a number of worthwhile upgrades, including a GraphTech Nubone string nut, a LockTone ABR-1 bridge, a LockTone stopbar and Epiphone Deluxe machine heads - in other words, unshakable tuning stability guaranteed. Meanwhile, the two Gibson BurstBuckers on board are muscled up with fierce humbucker sound and supported by genuine CTS pots, a Switchcraft 3-way switch, Mallory condensers and '50s-style wiring.

Fantastische Epiphone, speelt heel smood, goed geluid en schitterende afwerking. De samenwerking tussen Gibson custom shop & Epiphone heeft dit pareltje opgeleverd. Echt een aanrader als je een long term gitaar wilt aanschaffen qua prijs/kwaliteit verhouding is €1000 een prima prijs en het geld zeker waard!

Epiphone 1959 Les Paul Standard Aged Dark Cherry Burst Electric Guitar with Case

Een echte Gibson was mij te dol qua prijs, maar zelfs als Fender man zoek je soms een gitaar voor gelegenheden of opnames waarbij het grofgebekte geluid van een humbucker toch wel lekker is. Voordeel aan deze Epiphone is dat 'ie voorzien is van echte Gibson burstbuckers. Voor Epiphone begrippen is de gitaar dan ook aan de prijs, maar je merkt direct waarvoor je betaalt: gitaar voelt zeer degelijk aan (ook de koppen en elementenschakelaar), en de elektronica is onberispelijk. Geluid is in één woord geweldig, en de treble bleed zorgt voor een verscheidenheid aan bruikbare volume- en toon afstellingen.
Eén nadeel: de afstelling/ set-up heb ik door 'mijn gitaarmannetje' opnieuw moeten laten doen, want die was vreselijk. Dat schijnt echter standaard te zijn op de 2019/ 2020 series van Epiphone: het lijkt erop dat er in de fabriek niets wordt afgesteld. Dit valt voor mij wel te overzien en over de gehele linie ben ik ongelofelijk bij met deze gitaar.
