The Allen & Heath ICE-16D is a 16-channel standalone multi-track recorder that takes up only a couple of units in your 19-inch rack. This professional, compact recorder can also be used as an audio interface with your PC or Mac. You can choose between 16 discrete audio channels and record on a USB stick, external hard drive, or directly to your computer via USB or FireWire. The audio is captured in outstanding quality thanks to high-grade converters and WAVE file formats. The ICE-16D is based on the ICE-16, but has balanced inputs and outputs via four D-Sub connectors instead of unbalanced RCA plugs. What's more, you can use multiple recorders at once, if 16 channels is insufficient for your needs. The Allen & Heath ICE-16D is a perfect device for an optimal live recording!
The ins and outs of the ICE-16D
There are various inputs and outputs as well as digital connections for use with your computer located on the rear of the Allen & Heath ICE-16D. To record each channel separately, connect your mixer's outputs directly to the ICE-16D's inputs. Then, insert a storage device and you're good to go! This device saves your recordings in WAV format at 24-bit/48 kHz per channel. If you use the ICE-16D as an interface, you can even record at a maximum resolution of 96 kHz!
Daisy-chaining ICE-16D recorders
If you want to make a recording with more than 16 channels, then it's good to know you can daisy-chain multiple Allen & Heath ICE-16D recorders together. By linking them via the DIN connectors on the rear, you can run any number of recorders perfectly synced with one another. When using a FireWire interface, this connection needs to be made via the FireWire port. Furthermore, this 19-inch recorder has a headphone output for monitoring your recordings, LED status indicators, and an intuitive user interface.
