General
Tama has been making drums for over forty years, and all this experience has lead to the Starclassic Maple series drums being absolute gems. This shell set is made of thin shells, equipped with modern shell hardware. The 22-inch virgin bass drum, 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms and the 14 x 12 and 16 x 14-inch floor toms make for a highly versatile configuration. With its stylish Champagne Sparkle finish and remarkable black nickel-plated hardware, this gorgeous five-piece shell set is sure to be the life of the party.
Thin maple shells
The shells are made of maple, which ensures a warm sound and nicely emphasised lows. The toms and floor toms consist of 6 plies, and the bass drum consists of 8 plies - which is nothing out of the ordinary. However, in this case the plies are extra thin, which means the shells are only 5 and 6 mm thick, respectively. This results in the optimal transfer of vibrations from the drumhead to the shells, giving them a fantastic, open sound. Furthermore, to ensure optimal resonance, Tama fitted the kit with their StarCast tom mounting system, which suspends the toms by their hoops and makes minimal contact with the shells. Meanwhile, the floor tom legs feature special air chambers that prevent the vibrations from disappearing into the ground.
Functional hardware
Both the toms and the floor toms are fitted with Tama's Quick-Lock system. This system allows you to set up your shells just right in a matter of moments. Special rubber Hold Tight washers prevent the tension rods, that hold the hoops, from coming loose. These hoops are made of die-cast zinc, meaning they have no structural weak spots and distribute the tension evenly across the drumheads. The wooden bass drum hoops have a finish that matches the rest of the shells, and are kept in place by rubber-lined claw hooks.

Please note:
- The pictured stands and cymbals serve illustrative purposes only and are not included.
- A 'virgin' bass drum is a bass drum without tom mounts, which means the toms need to be mounted on a stand or separate tom holder. This set-up allows for more room for your cymbals and allows you to position them a little lower.
