After some forty years, Tama knows like no other how to make an exceptional drum kit. The Starclassic Maple series consists of thin maple drum shells with modern hardware. In this four-piece shell set, you'll find a 22 x 18-inch virgin bass drum, 10 x 8 and 12 x 9-inch toms and a 16 x 14-inch floor tom. Its gorgeous look is mostly thanks to the Satin Pearl White lacquer and the black nickel-plated hardware.
Rich sound
This kit's shells are even thinner than usual, allowing the drumheads to better transfer the vibrations. The 6-ply toms and floor tom and 8-ply bass drum may be only 5 and 6 mm thick, respectively, but they're just as sturdy as ever. As a result, the maple shells sound more rich and open than ever. Furthermore, the toms are suspended by their hoops to minimise contact with the shell, which also helps optimise resonance. The floor tom legs, meanwhile, are fitted with special air chambers to prevent the vibrations (and thus the sound) from disappearing into the ground.
Handy hardware
In fitting the shells with proper hardware, Tama took into account plenty of practical considerations. For instance, they fitted the toms and floor tom with their Quick-Lock system, which allows you to quickly and easily find the perfect position for them every time. The hoops, meanwhile, are made of die-cast zinc, ensuring they have no structural weak spots and distribute the tension evenly across the drumhead. The tension itself is kept consistent by the rubber Hold Tight washers that prevent the tension rods from coming loose. Finally, the bass drum claw hooks feature a rubber lining that prevents them from damaging the wooden hoops.
