Construction
Like its '60s predecessors, this Stratocaster features a lightweight alder body that provides for a balanced sound. The rosewood fretboard on the maple neck ensures a tone that is warmer than that of instruments with a maple fretboard. The Sunburst body and gold-coloured hardware bring the familiar Fender SRV Start to mind. Whereas the old model featured a three-position pickup switch, this Japanese '62 Start is equipped with a five-way switch, granting you access to the renowned out-of-phase quack. This Japanese Start offers you the exact sounds you may expect from a vintage Stratocaster with a Rosewood fretboard.

De gitaar zelf, een '62 reissue Fender strat (Japan) heeft een prachtige bouwkwaliteit, speelt fijn en is onversterkt erg resonant. Betreft een B-stock, maar was in nieuwstaat, folie zat ook nog op slagplaat en elementen. Erg tevreden hierover. Goudkleurige hardware geeft 'm wat bijzonders. Tuners wat stug, maar stemvast. Tremolo heeft een groot stalen blok.
Minder tevreden ben ik over de electronica van de gitaar. Van een gitaar die volgens de Bax-website "nauwkeurig is nagebouwd volgens de specificaties van de modellen uit de jaren 60" en "een kwaliteitsgitaar is die voldoet aan vintage specs" , verwacht je niet dat ie is uitgerust met (goedkoop ogende) keramische pickups, 5-standen switch en mini pots. Keramisch hoeft zeker niet slechter te zijn, maar dit doet kwalitatief erg goedkoop aan. Klinkt niet eens slecht overigens, maar is simpelweg niet volgens specs uit de jaren 60.
Samengevat een erg mooie, fijn spelende en goed gebouwde gitaar waarbij de kwaliteit van de electronica wat achterblijft bij de rest en niet voldoet aan de beschrijving op de Bax-website.
