A genuine Fender Jazz Bass is a valuable possession. This world-renowned bass guitar has been around for over 50 years and has since received various model upgrades. Of course, this doesn't mean that the current Jazz Bass is the best one ever. Also, the hunger for vintage models is greater than ever before. Fender know this and have created some carefully designed instruments, within their American Vintage series, that closely resemble their specific predecessor. This American Vintage Jazz Bass is a reissue of the Fender 1974 Jazz Bass.
Fender American Vintage 74 Jazz Bass: wood sound
Even apart from all the vintage aspects, this guitar is definitely worth a look. Its fair Olympic White finish combines beautifully with the maple neck and fretboard. Compared to rosewood, maple has a clearer sound with some more punch. The neck of this '74 model is a little bigger than that of previous models and has a U, as opposed to a C-profile neck. Its body is made of alder, which is relatively light, highly durable and capable of adding massive depth and sustain to the string resonance.
Electronics and shiny bits
Especially for the American Vintage '74 Jazz Bass, Fender designed two single coils that can accurately reproduce the tonal characteristics of their predecessors. Combined with the rich sound of the body you are allowed to enjoy a warm sound with punch in the trebles as well as in the basses. The bridge pickup has the same position as it did on the Jazz Bass from 1974. The bridge has a chrome-plated cover and the neck pickup is covered by a chrome-plated hand rest. The pickups each have their independent volume knobs and a master tone control lets you add some spunk to the overall sound. This American Vintage '74 Jazz Bass is a rock-solid American Fender-quality bass guitar.
