General
Even though the Strat is available in many different colours, there's nothing quite like a black Stratocaster. The Stratocaster has been around since 1954 and has been ahead of its time since it was first issued. Even though the basic design changed little over the years, guitar technology has improved by leaps and bounds since the fifties. The Fender American Deluxe Stratocaster has been the subject of many modern improvements without jeopardising the authentic Stratocaster feel and vibe. For example, the S-1 circuit adds a multitude of tonal options to the 5 beloved Strat sounds. Additionally, it features a humbucker designed by Tim Shaw, a household name for great guitar pickups.
Construction
An alder body and maple neck have been the tried-and-tested basic recipe for a good Strat for decades. Alder provides a balanced base tone that is expanded upon by the warm overtones of the 22-fret rosewood fretboard. Additionally, the fretboard has a compound radius of 9.5 inches to 14 inches, making it an excellent guitar for both tight riffs and smooth chords as well as virtuoso solos higher up the neck. Playing your dazzling solos also greatly benefits from the comfortably bevelled heel. As is the standard on an American Deluxe Stratocaster, this one has a maintenance-free Fender LSR Roller string nut.
S1 switch + Shawbucker
The American Deluxe Stratocaster is fitted with Fender's N3 Noiseless pickups. These two single coils produce that legendary Strat sparkle, without the typical 50Hz hum or static. Next to the standard tone control there's the master volume knob with an added S-1 switch that allows you to activate different switching circuits. In addition to the five standard Stratocaster pickup positions, the S-1 allows for five additional options. Add the incredibly potent Tim Shaw humbucker to the mix and you have a characterful Stratocaster with a unique tonal range. Tonal purists can use the Passing Lane Switch to completely bypass the tonal circuit.
