The ultra-high-end Avalon VT-737SP mono microphone amplifier serves the microphone signal with valve-driven preamps, an opto compressor, and a richly detailed EQ section, resulting in transparent, warm, and lush sound whether used in the studio or as part of a live rig.

The Avalon VT-737SP Preamp

The VT-737SP provides three input options, each with phase relay: the standard-issue microphone input complete with 48V phantom power supply, an instrument DI input with a front-fitted jack input, and a balanced line input. The Class-A mono preamp is supported by two cascaded valve triodes with negative feedback, and a set of four tubes, while the high-gain boost ensures controlled signal adjustments and the passive high-pass filter completes the deal.

Opto Compression & Sweep Equalizer

The opto compressor can be controlled with immense detail, and contrasting with classic opto compression, the attack and release can be set as well as the threshold and make-up gain. Accurately squeeze the signal to gain anything from subtle dynamic control to lush, character-packed limiting, and everything in between. The four-band equaliser further shapes the sound with a high-shelf and a low-shelf with an incredibly gradual curve, and a low-mid and high-mid band with a switchable Q-factor.
