General
If you’re a fan of analogue sound synthesis and like the colour blue, you’re in for a treat. The Arturia MicroBrute SE Blue Ltd is a limited-edition analogue synthesizer - collectors, take note! The MicroBrute may be small (about the size of a tablet), but definitely has sonic impact. As opposed to the original MicroBrute, this SE edition is delivered with a gig bag and four stackable patch cables. That’s right, the MicroBrute SE Blue Ltd offers more than just a pretty colour.
The possibilities of the Arturia MicroBrute SE Blue Ltd analogue synthesizer
The MicroBrute SE is a subtractive synthesizer, which means it uses a filter to alter the timbre of the sounds it synthesizes by means of its oscillators. Subtractive synths are quite common and if you’ve worked with one before, you’ll have no trouble operating the MicroBrute. A cluster of analogue oscillators allows you to generate a basic sound. In addition to the basic waveforms (sawtooth, square wave, triangle), each oscillator has a unique method of enhancing sound, including SuperSaw and PWM. The sound is then processed by a Steiner-Parker multimode filter, so you can adjust the timbre in LP, BP or HP mode.
Additional possibilities
The fun really starts with the MicroBrute’s modulation matrix, which is operated by means of cables, just like in the old days. The modulation matrix allows you to link the envelope and LFO to parameters such as pitch, filter and the special oscillator functions. An audio input is also at your disposal, so it’s possible to import external signals and use the synthesizer to process them. As a bonus, the limited edition MicroBrute SE comes with a number of stackable patch cables, which allow you to send a signal to several destinations. The icing on the cake is the MicroBrute’s step sequencer. Combined with the CV output you can use it to control vintage synthesizers (provided they support CV).
